This blog has been devised to answer some of the many questions raised by the life and career of the great landscape gardener, or place-maker, Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown (1716-1783), whose tercentenary we celebrate in 2016. Questions are numbered and logged on receipt, and responses are currently uploaded at a rate of three or four a week. All questions are numbered in order of receipt, and can therefore be read either in that order, or in the order of responses (a late response implies a question that required a hearing from the Brown Advisor in full fig).
All contributions are welcome; all can be anonymous if contributors so prefer.
John Phibbs has been the architect of these celebrations, and is proud to advise the many committees involved on all matters pertaining to Brown.
He occasionally tweets (@jlphibbs) but, when not at the Tatler's Waste-Bin, muses on the best way to communicate the greatness of Capability Brown. Is there no alternative to the master-class? And what are master-classes anyway? An introductory post has been issued (note 164).
